Frequently Asked Questions

What is JobCamp? What happens at JobCamp?

Milwaukee JobCamp is a FREE daylong participatory event focused on networking, learning and collaboration to improve your job search and career. JobCamp offers an informal and fun setting for knowledge exchange between job seekers, hiring professionals, entrepreneurs and other members of the community. In addition to speakers, JobCamp offers resume reviews, practice interviews, social media training, speed networking, industry huddles, elevator pitch practice and free headshots.

The first JobCamp, held in March of 2009, involved nearly 500 participants. Almost 1,000 people attended JobCamp2 in July of 2009. Volunteers conducted 350 mock interviews, took 300 professional headshots, and delivered more than 50 presentations. JobCamp3 doubled in attendance AGAIN and drew 2,000 people!

So who organizes JobCamp? Why do you do it?

The core JobCamp organizing team is about 20 volunteers from all walks of life--HR, event planning, media relations, marketing, recruiting, project management and more. Some of us are employed, some are in a career transition and some of us have recently found jobs. We've all seen family and friends affected by this economic downturn and are committed to doing what we can to help people through it.

How do I know if I should come to JobCamp?

If there's anything that you want to know about finding jobs, interviewing, resumes, career transitions, educational options, ways to deal with the financial and emotional challenges of job searches or even just want to meet some great people in your area then you should come to JobCamp!

What do I bring to JobCamp?

  • Copies of your resume (to get suggestions and discuss with others)
  • Business cards if you have them
  • Links to any online profiles you have
  • An open mind and a great attitude!

What do I wear?

No suits! We strongly encourage business casual. JobCamp is a place for learning and collaboration so we want you to be comfortable. Look presentable, but this is camp so leave the coat and tie or fancy dresses at home.

How long should I stay?

You are free to stay for as little or as much of the event as you want. You get to decide what activities and speakers are most useful for your own career. This is an event to help YOU so you get to decide how you spend your day.
